Speaking to the Nation

The Society being again a flourishing organisation, the committee wrote to the BBC. in 1973 inviting the very popular radio programme “Gardeners’ Question Time” to stage a broadcast from Congresbury. The BBC replied accepting the invitation but warned us that we would be the last on a long waiting list of some 600 invitations! However, it was expected that some of these invitations would turn out to be impracticable for various reasons and the BBC promised to keep in touch with us. Little did we realise that it would be twelve years before the broadcast took place, but take place it eventually did, in June 1985. Under the Chairmanship of Les Cottington, the panel of Clay Jones, Dr Stefan Buczacki and Geoffrey Smith came and Congresbury gardeners spoke to the nation!
